A MAN HAS been arrested after he climbed up to the M50 toll bridge, snipped the power supply to the tag reading sensors and caused over €100,000 worth of damage.
The man, who has a long history with the gardaí, managed to get to the sensors at around 9.30pm yesterday evening and damaged a number of sensors which pick up the M50 tags which many motorists use to pay the toll.
Parts of the M50 were shut down as it was not known what the man was doing.
A spokesman for Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) said a full assessment is being carried out on the toll bridge.
He said: “This was an act of vandalism. The man traversed some state of the art anti-graffiti measures and caused some serious damage to the sensors. The gardaí are now dealing with it.”
Garda negotiators managed to talk the man down and he was then arrested under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
